Audra McDonald's talents are unmatched in her range of talents and variety in her roles as a performer, singer and actor. She has been a six-time record recipient at the Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards as well as one Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. With a stunning soprano with an extraordinary talent for dramatic truth-telling her voice is as at ease in Broadway and the opera scene as she is in her film and television roles. In addition to her work in the theater McDonald has also a thriving career as an internationally acclaimed musician and recording artist. McDonald was raised in Fresno California by her musical parents. She studied classical music at the Juilliard School, New York. One year after graduation, McDonald received an award for the Tony Award Best Performance for a Lead Actress of Musical in Carousel at Lincoln Center Theater. Over the next four years, she also won another two Tony Awards under the featured actress category. These were in recognition of her Broadway performance in Terrence McGally's play Master Class and Ragtime. She won her fourth Tony in 2004 when she starred alongside Sean Diddy Combs in A Raisin in the Sun as well as in 2012. In 2012, she won five Tonys, and the first in the category of leading actress for her role as Porgy and Bess in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess as the title role. She created Broadway history in 2014 when she became the world's most decorated Tony Award performer. In her role in the role of Billie Holiday at Emerson's Bar & Grill, the role which also served to launch her Olivier Award nominated debut on London's West End in 2017, was the reason she received six awards. First actor recognized in all four acting categories, McDonald beat the record in the amount of awards an actor has won. McDonald also has credits for other productions in the theatre such as The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) Twelfth Nigh (2009); it also was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sense of 1921 And All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald's first appearance as a dramatic television actor was on the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say The Delany Sistersthe Early 100 Years. She appeared on the show in 1999. co-starred alongside Kathy Bates in ABC's acclaimed remake of Annie. Also, she had an occasional role in NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit in 2000. McDonald, who was awarded the Emmy Award nomination back in 1999 for her performance as a character in an HBO version of Pulitzer Prize-winning film Wit which was written and performed by Emma Thompson, made her return to the network in 2003 with the political drama Mister Sterling. The film was created by Emmy Award-winning Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The Bedford Diaries on the WB in early 2006 and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald received a nomination for a Fourth Emmy in 2016, for her role in HBO's film of Lady Day, at Emerson's Bar & Grill. She also appeared in 2021 when she appeared alongside Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale in the film The Bite, a pandemic drama co-produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. McDonald has a brief appearance in The Good Wife, a CBS Legal drama The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick from 2009 until 2018. She reprised her roles (now known as Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight as a Paramount+ season regular. McDonald was nominated for Three Critics Choice Award awards. She is also a character in HBO's The Gilded Age by Julian Fellowes.
